Go-To Restaurants in Winston Salem
If you are like me, it’s easy to get stuck in the routine of going to the same few restaurants over and over. You know what you want to order, so why switch it up? When I finally decided to be more adventurous with my off-campus dining choices, I realized that there are so many great dining options that Winston Salem has to offer. I have compiled a list of some of my new favorite restaurants that are worth trying out!
Hops Burger Bar was a restaurant that I drove by a million times before I stopped by. One day I finally decided to stop by, and it is my new go-to spot. The burgers are unbelievable, which is important for a burger joint. But what got me hooked is the truffle fries. They are the best fries I have ever encountered to this day. It is safe to say a tear is shed in honor of this restaurant when I depart from campus each semester. The only pitfall is that they do not take reservations, and it is a popular spot. If it is a weekend, I recommend keeping your group small or going earlier to ensure a short wait (even though a long wait is also worth it). I promise this place will not disappoint and will be my first stop upon arriving back in Winston Salem.
Taco Mama was a more recent find in my search for new restaurants and quickly became a regular spot for fun dinners with my friends. It is a fun, casual taco bar with outstanding burritos, tacos, and bowls (not to mention their great selection of Margheritas). My favorite part about this place is the combination of a casual and sit-down feel. You order your food and drinks when you arrive, because who likes to wait after a long day of classes and sit to enjoy the fun environment of this restaurant. The staff and service are the best, the ambiance is so lively, and you can count on delicious food. What more could you ask for?

There is nothing I love more than a Young Cardinal Cafe Sunday brunch. Located downtown, it is sure to cure the dreaded Sunday Scaries. Deciding between their Nutella pancakes and smoked salmon eggs benedict has always been my struggle when I choose to dine here, but there is no doubt that both options never disappoint. Their menu has items that are sure to hit the spot, including build-your-own-omelets, a great selection of salads, sandwiches, and so much more. If you’re looking for a place to satisfy your brunch needs, look no further. Young Cardinal is the place to go!

Last but certainly not least is The Loop Pizza Grill. I am not exaggerating when I say I could eat here every day of the week and be perfectly happy. Although their pizza is one of my personal favorites, their menu goes far beyond the typical pizza joint. Their wraps, salads, burgers, and soups are all great. I am yet to try a menu item I didn’t enjoy. Also, they have the best milkshakes that are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. It is a casual environment with both indoor and outdoor seating as well. Overall, I highly recommend this spot for a chill weekday meal off-campus!
